What is Scottish Rite Freemasonry?  Scottish Rite Freemasonry springs from the roots of the third degree.  Its additional 29 degrees demonstrate the basic principles of Masonry, especially the individual's responsibilities to his God and society.  The Rite also confers an honorary 33rd degree for exemplary service to the Fraternity or mankind.

Who are 32nd degree Masons?  They are men like you.  They are fathers and husbands, friends and colleagues, professionals and tradesmen.  They are men of all faiths, men from all walks of life.  They are men of good standing in their local lodges who believe in the ideals of Freemasonry and enjoy its camaraderie.  The question is: Why have these busy, fully involved men chosen to go beyond their membership in their local lodges?  Why have they chosen to become 32nd degree Masons?

How much time is involved?  In consideration of our Brothers' busy lives, the Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite limits the number of full degree presentations that new members view before reaching the 32nd degree.  This can usually be done in one weekend.  They can view the remainder of the degrees during the course of their Masonic life.

What are their charitable organizations?  32nd degree Masons are deeply involved in charities locally and across the Northern Jurisdiction. They fund the Schizophrenia Research Program.  They support the Museum of Our National Heritage, a lively interactive display of American history and culture, as well as an extensive library and repository for Masonic writings and artifacts.  Through the Abbot Scholarship Program and local scholarships, they help members' offspring attend college.  The most recent of our philanthropies is the Children's Learning Centers, for youngsters with Dyslexia.

What Family activities does the Valley offer?  The Valley of Indianapolis offers many family activities throughout the year.  Two of these activities, the Halloween Party and Children's Christmas Party, center specifically around the children. Other activities include the Father/Son and Father/Daughter Banquets as well as many theatrical productions that the whole family can enjoy.  The Indianapolis Valley, in recent years, has become a venue for the performing arts.  The Valley plays host to the International Violin Competition, our Sunday Concert Series, Off-Broadway Plays, Footlight Musicals, the Purdue Glee Club, the Singing Hoosiers, and the list goes on.  Holiday activities include our Annual Christmas Show, the New Years' Dinner-show and Dance, and our Sweetheart Dinner-Dance.  Also, in gratitude to our Members, the Valley hosts Membership Appreciation Nights twice a year.  All of these fine programs are either free or are offered at a reduced cost to our Members.

A 32nd degree Mason puts his principals to work, not just within the Scottish Rite's program, but also in service of causes outside of Masonry.

We invite you to learn more about becoming a 32nd degree Mason.  Call or write to the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, or visit our website.
